"Cian Finds Balor’s Daughter", drawing by H.R. Millar, c.1905.
In Irish mythology, Ethniu is the daughter of Balor, and the mother of Lugh. In one version of her story, Balor hears of a prophecy that says that he will be killed by his own grandson. To avoid this, he locks Ethniu in a tower to keep her away from all men. However, Cian eventually gains access to her tower and seduces her. Ethniu gives birth to triplets, and Balor tries to have them drowned n a whirlpool. One child survives, and grows up to be Lugh, who kills Balor.
